APPY FIZZ- A COOL DRINK TO HANG OUT WITH

Appy Fizz wears sneakers, plays pool, cracks good jokes and comes in a PET bottle you can keep in the fridge. Appy Fizz has become a real cool drink to hang out with after the ad campaign during the cricket matches of 07-08.  The ads had a twist and a different kind of appeal which made you want to try Appy Fizz, an apple flavored carbonated drink. Many did and Appy Fizz only got cooler. Till then, Appy – the non carbonated version of Appy Fizz- was not one if the popular fruit drinks in the market. The ad campaign changed the face of Appy and Appy Fizz.

Short and sweet, these ads made their point. They had a different approach than the ads for the rest of the drinks in the market. Appy Fizz, the product, is personified; he has identifiable characteristics and makes you laugh. The humour is intelligent, not sloppy, crude or completely obvious. The one liners make you think and they create an impact. You’re not always laughing along with Appy Fizz, you’re also laughing at Appy Fizz, which just makes him more likeable. The style of the humour is directed towards the  upper class youth between the age of 18 and 25. Appy Fizz speaks in English, uses slangs, and in all other ways behaves like an upper class college going student. The ad campaign was eye catching and worked wonders with the target audience, resulting in the increasing popularity of the drink. The ads don’t try to persuade you that Appy Fizz is cool, you come to the conclusion that he is. The image of Appy Fizz which has been created has considerably increased the consumer base.

With its golden colour and shape which resembles a champagne bottle, Appy Fizz seems to be a non alcoholic replacement of beer. Appy Fizz ‘hangs out’ with a gang of boys while watching football matches, playing pool and during parties -place where you would most expect to find liquor. The ads suggest that Appy Fizz being non alcoholic is cooler than beer. Nowadays, Appy Fizz has become a popular ingredient in cocktails.

Building up on the same concept, Parle Agro recently introduced Grappo Fizz- a grape flavored carbonated drink- as Appy Fizz’s cousin. Though its quality in terms of taste still has to reach a verdict, the manner in which Grappo Fizz was introduced, made people willing to give it a shot. Grappo Fizz is given an accent and golden jewellery to wear, which points to its uniqueness. The tag line now reads- “two cool drinks to hang out with”. Their double act – became an instant hit. It created a lot of curiosity about the new product, and drove the point- that there was now a choice- home.

  3. nice peppy youthful ad sure shot to click with its target audience (esp the college going youths). Appy FIZZ has the charm n the fun quotient to attract to those who wanna look cool but lie outside the shown age group.
