Blood Donation India

Agency: BBC World

How many of us donate blood? Not may…but we are aware that blood donation drives are taking place regularly around us. There are a number of people out there who are in need of blood and rely on the generosity of people like you and me to live each day of their lives. The thought has been beautifully put across by the latest blood donation campaign by the National Aids Control Organization.

It features a small girl going from table to table at a cafe just randomly thanking people. One such man is taken by surprise and asks the little girl why she is thanking him. She sweetly replies that she is thallasemic and relies on people like him for blood. She is not aware of whose blood is flowing through her body, but she knows that she is healthy and alive because some good samaritan took the time out and donated blood that she can use.

She does not know who to thank so she thanks everyone she meets. The man is surprised and he looks at her and says with a smile, and says that he has never donated blood. She is shocked, speechless and moves on to thank other people in the cafe. The man continues to look at her as though he has just had a revelation.

That’s how a number of people felt after they saw this particular ad. They were saddened by the plight of the little girl and could easily relate to the happiness she felt when she thanked people who she thought have gifted her life.

The ad ends with the man at the cafe and the little girl urging people like you and me to donate blood. One should indeed try it, just take a few hours out of your busy schedule and donate some blood, it may not make a difference to your body, but it can save a life.
