The Bru commercial on air these days is a perfect representation of the modern household and the age old relationship of the mother in law and daughter in law. The daughter in law keeps thinking that her mother in law that she is not good enough, can’t cook well and can’t even make a decent cup of coffee.
The film however has been made with a lot of tact and represents the relationship in ‘sweet’ way. It starts off with a young couple sitting in a living room. The wife played by Hrishita Bhatt hands over a cup of coffee to her husband and says “I made coffee for your mother yesterday with so much love and she said that I have finally learnt how to make coffee after marriage. I wonder why she would have said that.”
Her husband laughs and says, “the thing is that when we came to see you for the first time, you had forgotten to put sugar in the coffee”. The wife is take aback, startled she asks her husband,” then why didn’t you say anything”. He looks at her and says, “well mom said, what if the coffee is not sweet at least my daughter in law is”. An absolute ‘awww’ moment.
In India especially where ‘saas bahu’ serial have ruined the perception of the relationship shared by a mother in law and daughter in law, the ad is fun to watch. The young wife feels bad because her mother in law says something which she perceives as being mean, she complains to her husband and looks to find solace but instead learns that her mother in law is a true gem.
A well made ad that connects coffee with relationships and how a cup of coffee can bring people closer together.
