Coca Cola – Happy Diwali

Agency: McCan Erickson
Production House: Freshwater Films

What better way to celebrate Diwali than by reviving an ancient art form. The new Coca Cola commercial is simply breath taking and is remarkable on two counts. The first is the very basic concept of coming home for Diwali. The ad targets the youth and showcases a boy on his journey towards home to celebrate Diwali with his family.

The second count for which this remarkable piece of work deserves mention is the treatment of the ad and the ancient art form of Warli figures that they have used. The figures have been used and animated to show the energy, excitement and joy that is associated with the festival of lights. The artist, Nitin Dabholkar who was responsible for the creation of these Warli figures was honoured and extremely happy about the fact that an ancient art form was being revived.

The ad has been directed by Dibaker Banerjee and very simply and subtly captures all the emotions of an individual when he is making his journey towards home. The TVC features a young boy waiting at a stall for a ride so he can continue on his journey home. While waiting he opens a bottle of Coca-Cola and just then night is about to fall, so the scene becomes darker. As he opens the bottle the amazing Warli figures come to life on the bottle and start dancing so as to celebrate his return.

He gets excited and as he looks at the driver of the vehicle head for his ride, he gets up quickly and heads to the vehicle himself. The vehicle lights up, another great feature of the commercial. It looks beautiful as it drives down the mountains in the middle of absolutely nowhere. Coco-Coal brings people together and this Diwali Coke urges us to get together and Open Happiness.
