In an effort to target the youth through this commercial Coke roped in two upcoming stars in Bollywood for their latest ‘coke khule toh baat chale’ commercial. The TVC features Imran Khan and Kalki of Dev D fame. They look good together and on screen manage to showcase that Coke indeed is the choice for the youth.
It’s a hot day in Mumbai, and the ad takes off from there. A jam packed bus, Imran Khan a college going teen is stuck between a few people and finally settles his glance on Kalki. The bus stops, it’s hot and Kalki looks at a Coke poster outside, pretends to pick it up from the poster, open it and gestures to ask Imran if he would like a sip. He nods happily and takes the pretend Coke bottle from her hand.
He sips the drink up in one quick gulp and turns his hand over as to say, I’m sorry, there’s nothing left. Kalki looks angry, she makes a face and looks away. Just them, the charming Imran, pulls out an actual Coke bottle from his bag.
The TVC indeed is very cute and is bound to touch a chord with students all over the country. Fresh faces, hot summers and cool drinks make for the best ads, and this is what Dibaker Banerjee of Fresh water Films has managed to achieve in a crowded bus bound to some college in Mumbai.
Coke for a while lent it’s marketing budgets to create awareness in Rural India, now that the concept of paanch matlab Coca Cola has been established, the nephew, Imran Khan has taken over the reigns from uncle Aamir Khan to reach out to a more urban and young audience. The ad indeed manages to open happiness for viewers.
