Eye Bank Association of India – Donate your eyes

Coming out of the conventional mode of advertising, Code Red Films had come out with one of the most touching ads ever made for the Indian television with the main motive to spread awareness about eye donation. The 3 minute ad tagged as Hostel, shows children living in a hostel celebrating holi with their hearts out enjoying with each other and their hostel warden. It shows just another day of holi where they are throwing colors at each other, pulling pranks on each other, stealing food from the kitchen etc. This ad has been created in a very simple way which gives a very light and comfortable feeling about the ad. One might wonder as to how could anyone relate holi to eyes till the end when the warden after getting all freshened up sits with one of the children who suddenly says “ warden kaka, rang kitne rang ke hote hai” (‘Warden uncle, how many colors are there?) when one can actually realizes what the motive is behind the ad. The song itself is extremely deceptive which mentioned how colors matter so much to us and how it all comes together during holi.  The sudden transition from the feeling of joy to something completely different makes a major impact.

This ad very aptly educates the masses about the need for eye donation and how they also deserve to have all the fun we can have. Is is said that in India, out of every 1000 people, 4 are blind. Eyes are one of the few organs in our body which lives even after death. It therefore does not require any form of sacrifice. Donated eyes are also used for research purposes which is extremely helpful for determining eye problems and the solutions to them. The ad, funded by the Eye Association of India is known to have driven hundreds of people to donate their eyes.

One should realize that they can help even after their deaths which actually results in transforming a life.
