Advertising is an indispensable aspect of selling anything. Without advertising it would be extremely tough to sell products, services, ideas, etc., in today’s world. Ads on television and in print media often affect the choice of the consumers. Thus, having an effective marketing strategy is crucial for manufacturers in order to enhance the sales of their product.
Advertisements employ different approaches and reflect various moods. Most of them are either humorous, sarcastic, straightforward or emotional. One can’t really say which approach appeals the most to the audience. It is the way an ad is directed and presented that decides its popularity and success.
Personally, I like humorous ads and at present, I have two favourites, which have actually influenced my choices. One is the Coca Cola ad, featuring Imran Khan and Kalki. The other one is Limca’s ad, which just refreshes the viewers
The ad is based on how Limca, with its water like freshness can spark a playful romantic interaction between two strangers. Completely justifying the tagline of the soft-drink, “Doobo Taazgi Mein”, the female lead (Hrishitta Bhatt) gets literally drenched in the freshness. The ad revolves around Hrishitta and a super cute new guy, Viraf Patel. The commercial starts with a girl reading a book in her balcony. A guy comes out with a bottle of Limca in his hand and reclines on his bike, just opposite her balcony. Both of them exchange a flirty glance. Then, as soon as Viraf takes a sip of his drink, the book in Hrishitta’s hand bursts into water which is a surprise for both of them, a pleasant one for him and an annoying one for her. Then whatever she touches turns into water, be it the towel she picks up to dry herself with, the flowerpot which she wants to throw on Viraf or even the door she opens. Finally, the tables are turned when Viraf empties his bottle of Limca and she walks to his house with a bottle in her hand. As soon as she takes a sip, the bike against which Viraf is leaning turns into water and he falls on the ground- drenched and accepting his defeat but still smiling. The commercial comes to an end with both of them laughing together with the tagline in the foreground.
The effect of the ad has been enhanced by the apt background song, capturing the ‘naughty’ mood of the ad through its quirky lyrics and
The ad captivates the attention of the viewers and seems to reiterate the fact that Limca is indeed the ultimate refreshing drink. I have actually started drinking Limca only after watching this ad. Earlier I used to think of it as a boring drink for grown-ups. After this ad I’m sure youngsters have started taking this drink seriously.
In conclusion, the ad is successful in reaching its target audience and serves its purpose. It will definitely help in increasing demand for the drink. A thumbs-up to it!
