The positioning for the brand has not changed over the years. From the time they launched they focussed on creating advertising for the young urban youth of the country. So, in keeping with talking to the same audience the latest Maruti Suzuki A Star commercial showcases that the people who are listening are smart, young, confident and have oodles of self belief.

The TVC is interesting and if you belong in the segment that is being talked to through this ad you will relate to it. The young urban youth of today is confident, knows that they may be not better than another candidate but are surely capable of fulfilling tasks that they undertake.

The TVC starts with a young man driving to his interview in an A Star. He goes into the interview room, where a panel of interviewers are ready and set to grill him. They ask him a series of questions to which he does not know the answers to. The panel is amazed at the confidence with which he responds ‘No’ to every question.

At the end of the interview he makes one request, the panel asks him what he wants to know. In absolute innocence he asks the panel, was the objective of the interview to ask me what I know or to ask me what I don’t know. The panel is shocked and urges him to tell them what he does know. As expected the panel is impressed and the underdog wins the position he wanted all along.

The TVC focuses on talking to a segment that knows what they want and are aware of their strengths and their weaknesses. They appreciate things that are good in life and work very hard towards making it their own. The A Star commercial does a great job in speaking to this individual.
