Maruti K Series Engines

Lack of inspiration or too much of it?
Maruti K Series Engines – High on power, low on creativity!

Foot tapping beats that linger on in your mind long after the Maruti K Series engines TVC is over is one good thing about the TVC. But I still fail to understand why advertisers prefer to make ambiguous statements that don’t mean a thing to the layman who believes advertising is an intrusion between his nine o clock news.

A sprinter who can win a marathon, what are you talking about? The guys at Capital did not really put too much thought into the brief I guess. The new K series engines are poised to bring the benefits of power, fuel efficiency and the fact that it is smaller and still more powerful. Well, the tagline is neat – Leaner. Meaner. Fitter. It rings a bell yes, but the analogy with that of a sprinter, marathoner and a never ending race track seems a little too far fetched and ambiguous.

The TVC is well made and the production team at Planet Films has indeed done a great job, but it scores low when it comes to creating an impact. Low on concept but high on execution, it does not break the clutter, given the recent Bajaj Commercial and the Transformer series of films.

When I saw the TVC for the first all that stuck in my head was the shot where the runner’s skin gives way to an immaculate machine. I quickly dismissed it thinking it was one of the Bajaj commercials again.

It’s probably the first time though a brand has sold a part of its technology as a whole separately and then neatly dove tailed it into future offerings. The new Wagon R boasts of sporting a K Series engine and promises various benefits. Frankly, that’s when I made the association. Not an ideal investment in terms of time and money.
