The latest D2H ad for Videocon is a little disappointing because you cannot help but wonder if the instant service that they provide for Abhishek Bachchan will be provided to everyone else as well. The ad starts with Aby Baby getting into a car, making a call to the customer service of Videocon D2H and making a request that he wants a connection. The service executive instantly says ‘In no time sir’.
All of a sudden hell breaks lose and three service men from the company jump out of the window and like super heroes make their way to Abhishek Bachchan’s house and install the connection ‘in not time’.
Abhishek comes home and is happy to see the set top box placed below his television. He is surprised and calls the executive that sorted the connection ‘in no time’. When he calls the executive, the executive happily says ‘As I said sir – in no time’.
What Videocon is trying to suggest that they will beat all odds and make sure that when a connection is demanded they will waste no time in ensuring that the connection is made fast. However how true that it is, is only to be seen once people start appreciating the efficiency.
The competition in this category too is very fierce and Tata Sky, Airtel, Dish and many other small service providers are all fighting or a piece of the pie. Not too sure if this promise is the best way of getting into people’s houses. Abhishek looks great in the film, but is it too late for Videocon D2H to penetrate into a market that is already so crowded and tapped into.
No amount of theatrics and jumping on and off buildings is going to do the trick. The promise has to be fulfilled and we look forward to seeing Videocon D2H service executives jumping on and off building terraces to service new connections.
